RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023
Tropical Plants UK are at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show
Come and view our studio at the RHS Chelsea Flower show this year.
We will be transforming the Malvern Garden Building – Pavillion Studio into a home garden office. See the ethos behind our creation below along with our plant list, a little about the nursery and the people who have helped make this possible. You can also shop all the plants we have used in our design in our Chelsea Collection.
The Studio
The Keep Calm – Grow British houseplant studio for this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Tropical Plants UK transforms the Malvern Pavillion studio into a home garden office. The setting is designed to showcase how plants can be used within indoor spaces and balconies, whether in low light or bright lit areas to add a jungle like edge to your interior space. Adding a health and wellbeing benefit to any multifunctional space.
With the increasing aspiration to create healthy environments in a world where living/work spaces are becoming smaller, we as a society have to utilise what limited living space we have for numerous day to day functions. In the last few years especially, our homes have become our sanctuary and plants have played a key role in helping us to create calm and peace. With Sustainability and health at the heart of this, it also emphasises the importance of supporting our growers and nurseries here in the UK now and in the future, and that we should be mindful of where our plants are sourced from, investing back and helping British horticulture to grow.

A Passion For Plants
The owners of Tropical Plants UK, Opperman Plants Ltd, have a passion for plants – tropical plants in particular.
They are a family run business, started by Mike and Jenny Opperman 25 years ago, Mike having studied horticulture and written his thesis on the Monstera Deliciosa. The company produces over 3 million houseplants a year, and is one of the few businesses to grow tropical plants in the UK. They are keen to educate the public in the benefits of keeping houseplants, and the positives of reducing your carbon footprint by buying British.

Sarah J Hatherill
Sarah worked as part of the Opperman Plants team to design and create the “Keep calm and grow British” stand. Her design has been commissioned and output in cruise ships, restaurants, bars and garden centres. She is working on an interiors range which will be available online soon.

Malvern Garden Buildings
We’re delighted to, once again, be working in collaboration with the RHS – providing six stunning garden buildings for the Houseplant Studios area at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.
Tucked away on the Plateau in Ranelagh Gardens, our practical yet stylish studios will offer houseplant enthusiasts the perfect space to showcase their designs and give visitors the inspiration to bring their homes to life with on-trend, plant-filled rooms.
Chelsea Flower Show gives us the chance to showcase our range of garden buildings and display the many ways our buildings can be used – whether that’s a place to retreat, work, entertain or simply get closer to nature.

Brian and Martin created the wonderful metal work included on the display including key features such as the crown, pool table, and terrarium lamp.
